Freedom Square is an eternal remembrance of Shelby County veterans who served and sacrificed so that all people might live in a world of peace and freedom. It also honors General MacArthur and Shelbyville's Augie West in the Philippines on January 9, 1945, and recalls the flag raising on Mount Suribachi, Iwo Jima.
