Blue Mounds Fort was a frontier stockade built in 1832 during the Black Hawk War at Blue Mounds, Wisconsin, on open prairie south of the Eastern Mound. Settlers near the community founded by Ebenezer Brigham began construction after learning that Black Hawk and Sauk followers had crossed the Mississippi, and fear after Stillman's Run hastened the work. Completed in about two weeks, the fort sheltered settlers and miners who joined General Henry Dodge's Michigan Territory Militia. Archaeological evidence shows a square oak-picket enclosure with two blockhouses and a central log building. The site also reflects wartime tensions involving the nearby Ho-Chunk.
