Blue Mound State Park
Nature
Blue Mound State Park is a 1,153-acre Wisconsin state park near Blue Mounds, set atop the largest hill in southern Wisconsin. Named for West Blue Mound, the park offers sweeping views in every direction from observation towers, reaching the Wisconsin River valley, the Driftless Area, and toward Madison. West Blue Mound, the state’s most prominent peak, is a monadnock shaped by long erosion, its resistant Niagara dolomitic limestone standing above surrounding rock. The park is valued for both scenery and recreation, with trails, camping, a nature center, and the only swimming pool in a Wisconsin state park, while also serving as a year-round site for events and volunteer stewardship.
