Among Furman men who gave their lives in the World War were Lt. John H. David Jr., the first South Carolina officer killed in action, Lt. Charles S. Gardner, Sgt. Charles E. Timmons Jr., Corp. Talmadge W. Gerrald, Pvt. Thomas J. Lyon Jr., and Pvt. Otis B. Brodie.
