In West Branch, Iowa, the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum serves as both the presidential library and burial place of Herbert Clark Hoover, connecting his public career to his birthplace, nearby historic buildings, and the graves of Herbert and Lou Henry Hoover. Created from local preservation efforts that began in 1954, the project expanded from a small museum into Hoover’s presidential library and opened on August 10, 1962, with Hoover and Harry S. Truman present. Enlarged repeatedly over the years, it became a major research center whose collections cover Hoover’s life, his era, and wider subjects in American political, economic, and foreign policy history.
