The Bank of Lee’s Summit began in 1868 as a private bank founded by W. H. Colbern and Josiah Hargis under the name Colbern and Hargis Bank. By 1874 it was known as W. H. Colbern and Company, owned by W. H. Colbern and A. H. Powell. In 1879, R. B. George and James Thornton became the owners, and the bank became R. B. George and Company. On February 20, 1884, it incorporated as the Bank of Lee’s Summit with R. B. George as president, and today it is the oldest business in the Lee’s Summit community. This site was also the home of Nora Hall and her uncle Thomas Coleman Younger. Built in 1876, the original house had large rooms, a splendid porch, and an elegant dining room. Once owned by Allen Price, station master of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, it eventually became the home of Belle Younger Hall and her daughter Nora. On September 20, 1889, it was the site of the funeral of Robert Ewing Younger, the youngest of the Younger brothers. In 1903, Cole Younger returned from prison and lived in the home until his death in 1916.
