Firefighters Albert Shanks and Albert Holmes lost their lives in the line of duty on February 17, 1915, Gene Anderson on August 11, 1976, Wayne Turpin on December 1, 1983, and Hubert Golden on December 29, 1983; officers David Farnsworth died on January 27, 1876, August Lind on April 10, 1908, and Myron Decker on June 6, 2001. Their sacrifice is paired with a fireman’s prayer asking God for strength to save lives, protect neighbors and property, and bless the firefighter’s family if he dies, and a policeman’s prayer asking God for guidance, patience, understanding, and protection for the officer’s family if he gives up his life.
