The Eighth N. Y. Heavy Artillery, under Col. Peter A. Porter in the 4th Brigade, 2D Division, 2D Corps, Army of the Potomac, suffered the loss of Col. Peter A. Porter, who was killed or died of wounds received in the Battle of Cold Harbor, Va., on June 3, 1864.
