Eleanor's chauffeur Arthur Fauser and his family, his wife Mary and their three children Arthur Jr., Alice, and John, moved into the cottage in late 1928 or early 1929 and lived there until Fauser's death in 1954. Many staff members like Fauser worked for the Fords for decades, and that loyalty was rewarded. When Fauser was battling cancer, the Fords paid his hospital bills, and after his death Eleanor continued to pay his salary to his widow. These and similar acts built a foundation of mutual respect and loyalty between the Fords and their staff.
