Simón Bolívar, known as “The Liberator,” lived from 1783 to 1830 and was honored by the Hernández family and Cubans in exile as the liberator of the Bolivarian countries, in recognition of patriotism, freedom, and justice for all people. The tribute included the words, “By God Almighty, I plant this flag, where the furious flag of the Spanish waves haughtily. And I will die happy, if such is your will. Comrades, advance, the enemy is coming. Come and seek with me, death or freedom.”
