The gun fired the first salute on October 18, 1850, when news arrived in California proclaiming its admission to the Union. It was remounted for the City of Watsonville on March 22, 1922, by the Watsonville Parlor, No. 65, Native Sons of the Golden West, and in 1924 the Historic Landmark Committee of N.S.G.W. placed a tablet.
