Heidecke Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area in Grundy County, Illinois, is a state park built around a 1,300-acre artificial lake that also serves as a wildlife refuge and protected area. At its center is Heidecke Lake, a man-made cooling pond originally excavated to support the Collins Generating Station. After the plant closed, the site took on a new role under state protection.
