Humboldt Peak is a 14,066.6-foot summit in Colorado’s Sangre de Cristo Range, within the rugged Crestones group and the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness of San Isabel National Forest. Named for Alexander von Humboldt, it is one of Colorado’s fourteeners and is regarded as a comparatively accessible climb in a dramatic alpine setting. The standard route reaches the mountain from the South Colony Lakes basin, a common base for ascents in this part of the range, and includes hiking with some Class 2 rock scrambling near the top.
