Damariscotta Lake State Park in Jefferson, Maine, is a 19-acre public recreation area at the northeast corner of Damariscotta Lake, a lake about 10 miles long. Established in 1970 and managed by the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, it offers a sandy beach for swimming along with picnicking, canoeing, and fishing. The park’s later history includes the destruction of its original group shelter, built in 1976, by arson in 2009 and the dedication of a replacement in 2011. With 25,000 visitors recorded in 2010, it serves as a popular summer destination in the region.
