Each camp housed 200 men plus technical staff and army personnel. Enrollees slept, ate and relaxed in uninsulated barracks, simple tarpapered wooden structures built by the first enrollees. Screens on windows and doors let in cool summer night air, and woodburning barrel stoves warmed the men in winter.
