Originally located four miles northwest of Grapevine, Texas, this cabin stood on land that was part of Peters Colony, a set of four land grant contracts designed to attract immigrants to settle the area. Its namesake, John R. Torian, was the property's third owner. In 1975, Torian's granddaughter, Leona Torian Tanner, gave the cabin to the Grapevine Historical Society. Allowed only one day to remove it from the Tanner property, members of the Historical Society secured help from Grapevine's city manager, who approved a crew to dismantle and remove the structure. Paint marked each log for accurate reassembly, and photographs of the door, windows, and joints preserved the cabin's design integrity. After the dismantling, members of the Grapevine Historical Society and Grapevine city officials chose a new site, and reconstruction began on March 18, 1976. The cabin's design includes additions and improvements made over many decades.
