Walter B. Tewksbury won five medals in track and field at the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris, including two gold, two silver, and one bronze, and in 1900 was co-holder of the world record in the 100-meter dash. He became a member of the National Track and Field Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame. At the University of Pennsylvania, he was intercollegiate champion in the 100- and 220-yard dashes in 1898 and 1899, graduated with a D.D.S. in 1899, then practiced dentistry, coached track and field, and was active in the Tunkhannock community.
