Planting for People
Nature
Thousands of footsteps crossing this area each year take a toll on plant life by compacting the soil so much that plant roots can no longer probe through it and the plants die. In 1982, the Bureau of State Parks decided to control foot traffic so that some plants could live. Landscaping was used to define footpaths, and shrubs and wildflowers were planted to beautify the approach to the overlooks.
