East Middlebury Iron Works
Industry
This iron furnace, or bloomery, was built in 1831. The mill operated three forges and produced about three tons of wrought iron per day. During the Civil War years (1861-1865) the mill produced over 2,100 tons of iron. When it closed in 1890, this furnace was the last operating iron works in Vermont.
