Mount Ord is a 7,128-foot mountain in the Mazatzal Range of central Arizona within Tonto National Forest, with its summit on the line between Maricopa and Gila counties at Maricopa County’s northeastern edge. Named for Major General Edward Ord, it is distinct from Mount Baldy’s peak in Apache County, which some sources have also called Mount Ord. Although communications towers occupy the summit, the mountain is especially notable for wildlife watching, particularly birds. Its geography and habitat draw an unusual concentration of Arizona mountain warblers, making it the only place in central Arizona where Virginia’s, Black-throated Gray, Grace’s, Olive, and Painted Redstart can all be found together.
