Robbins Nest Covered Bridge in Barre, Vermont, spans the Jail Branch of the Winooski River near U.S. Route 302. Built by Robert R. Robbins, it is a queen-post truss bridge designed as a replica of an earlier covered bridge that once stood just downstream until the devastating Vermont flood of 1927 swept it away. Though not itself a surviving historic bridge, the present structure follows traditional Vermont covered-span construction methods and preserves the look and basic building style of a classic local bridge. In 1990, later owners reinforced it with steel beams beneath the deck, sustaining a reconstruction closely tied to local memory.
