For 143 years, from 1860 to 2003, the family-owned and operated C.B. Cummings & Sons Co. employed several generations of area residents and was a mainstay of the local business community. The company manufactured sawn lumber, toy and furniture components, and finished furniture for distribution throughout the U.S., and at one time it was the world's largest producer of hardwood dowels.
