Pleasant Mountain Ski Area in Bridgton, Maine, occupies the northern end of Pleasant Mountain and is the state's oldest major ski area. Local community groups first developed ski trails there in 1935, and with Works Progress Administration assistance the town added a rope tow before opening the area to the public on January 23, 1938. Over time it expanded from a community-built hill into an established ski destination with 245 skiable acres, multiple lifts, night skiing, and terrain centered on intermediate and advanced skiers while still providing beginner access. After operating as Shawnee Peak from 1988 to 2022, the resort regained its historic name under Boyne Resorts.
