Built in 1914, this two-cell jail was made entirely of Santa Cruz Portland Cement from the nearby Davenport Cement Plant. In Davenport’s generally peaceful history, it saw little use, once holding two boys from San Mateo after a horse-stealing lark and occasionally accommodating a local inebriate. After the new Front Street Jail opened in Santa Cruz in 1936, the small facility fell into disuse, and today it houses exhibits on the history of Davenport and the North Coast region.
