The memorial is dedicated to the Vietnam veterans of East Tennessee and to service in the Republic of Vietnam from Feb. 1961 to May 1975, honoring the principle that all gave some and some gave all. It remembers 671 East Tennesseans who gave their lives in the service of their country. It also names the conflict’s campaigns from Advisory beginning March 15, 1962, through Defense, Counteroffensive, Counteroffensive II and III, Tet Counteroffensive, Counteroffensive Phases IV through VII, Tet 69 Counteroffensive, Summer-Fall 1969, Winter Spring 1970, Sanctuary Counteroffensive, Consolidation I and II, Cease Fire, and Operation Frequent Wind on April 29-30, 1975. It further honors those listed as P.O.W. and M.I.A. with the assurance that they are not forgotten and includes the U.S. Military Code of Conduct, Article VI, affirming duty, freedom, responsibility, and trust in God and in the United States of America.
