After the September 11, 2001 attacks, in which nineteen Al-Qaeda terrorists struck the United States homeland and killed nearly 3,000 people in less than four hours, many Americans, including residents of DuPont, answered the call to defend the nation by committing their lives to hunting down the enemy, dismantling terrorist networks across the globe, and keeping America safe. The burden of this war also fell heavily on families at home, who endured separation, loss, and the struggle to carry on when soldiers fell. DuPont honored its citizens who served in this cause and the families who supported them, especially remembering those who gave their lives: SFC Mark W. Fallstone, Jerry Palinsky, SSG Henry K Kahalewai, SFC Nathan L Winder, SSG Sean D Diamond, CPT John L Hallett III, MSG (RET) Dane C Paresi, SPC James L Miller, and SSG Conrad A Mora.
