Mount Harrison is a 9,265-foot peak in Idaho’s northern Albion Mountains, within Sawtooth National Forest, overlooking streams that flow to the Snake and Columbia rivers. Despite its high-country setting, with alpine lakes in nearby basins, a paved road reaches the summit. The mountain is especially significant for its rare plant life: Christ’s Indian Paintbrush grows nowhere else in the world, and one of the three known populations of Cymopterus davisii is found there. Mount Harrison is also remembered for a wartime disaster when a B-24 Liberator crashed there in dense fog during a training mission on February 9, 1945, killing all nine crew members.
