Nature
Pomerelle is an alpine ski area in south-central Idaho below Mount Harrison in the Albion Mountains within Sawtooth National Forest. Operating since 1940, it is among the oldest ski areas in the western United States and has remained a notable Idaho winter destination. Its summit reaches 8,762 feet, with a vertical drop of 1,002 feet, and it is especially known for heavy snowfall averaging about 500 inches each year. The mountain is served by two triple chairlifts and a beginner magic carpet, with a lodge, deck grill, and rental shop at the base. On New Year’s Day 1973, a chairlift accident injured 21 skiers, though no one was killed.
