When Hurricane Hugo swept through the state on September 21, 1989, this community suffered terrible ruin, including the destruction of the Goodwill Presbyterian Church sanctuary. In this area, however, no lives were lost, and relief in many forms, including human helpers, came from many places inside and outside the state, giving the community strength to bear its burdens.
