Guye Peak rises above Snoqualmie Pass in Washington’s Cascade Range, north of this major crossing and within the Alpine Lakes Wilderness east of Seattle. Named for Francis M. Guye, who held an iron mining claim there in the 1880s, it is easily reached from Interstate 90 but remains a demanding and hazardous climb. Routes gain about 2,000 feet and range from scrambling to technical rock climbing, and the mountain has a long history of fatal falls. First recorded climbed in 1912, the peak stands in a rugged landscape of sharp ridges, glacial valleys, granite walls, and many lakes shaped by volcanic formation and repeated Pleistocene glaciation.
