Syringa Provincial Park lies on the east shore of Lower Arrow Lake in southeastern British Columbia and today covers 4,499 hectares. Its name originated in 1903, when David Loughnan and Robert Russell Rose, needing a place name to receive mail while logging near Syringa Creek, chose “Syringa” for the nearby mock-orange plants; the Geographic Board of Canada adopted it the next year. The area had long held cultural and spiritual importance for the Okanagan, Shuswap, and Ktunaxa-kinbasket First Nations. Settlement along the former Columbia River foreshore disappeared before flooding from the Keenleyside Dam reservoir in 1968, the same year the park was created and later expanded in 1995 and 2019.
