On December 17, 1860, the McNair family deeded four acres of land in “Old” Walnut Grove to the Methodist Episcopal Church South. Shortly thereafter the first sanctuary was constructed, and the Rev. Levi P. Meador was appointed as the first pastor in 1867. A second sanctuary, built in 1895, was dedicated by Bishop Charles Betts Galloway and remained in use until 1926, when the town was moved closer to the Jackson & Eastern Railroad. In 1927 a new church was built at this site on land donated by Cecil and Percy Chadwick.
