Left Hand Spring, in present-day Blaine County, Oklahoma, was an important watering stop on the old Chisholm Trail during the cattle-trail era in this part of the southern Great Plains. Named for Left Hand, an Arapaho chief, it is most closely associated with Jesse Chisholm, the trader and trailmaker for whom the Chisholm Trail was named. Chisholm died at the spring in 1868, linking the site to both his life and the broader history of overland travel and cattle driving in the American West.
