Eischen Bar
History
Eischen Bar in Okarche, Oklahoma, is widely regarded as the state's oldest bar. Founded in 1896 by Peter Eischen as a watering hole, it closed during Prohibition and reopened in the 1930s under his son Nick Eischen. In the 1940s, Nick added an 1800s Spanish handmade backbar that became a defining interior feature. A 1993 fire destroyed the memorabilia covering the walls, but the business reopened in less than a year under Nick's grandsons, Ed Eischen and Paul. Its endurance through closure, fire, and rebuilding has made it an important part of Oklahoma history.
