Saint Edward State Park in Kenmore and Kirkland spans 326 acres along Lake Washington, combining second-growth forest, waterfront, trails, and historic seminary buildings. Logged in the nineteenth century and again in the nineteen twenties, the land became Roman Catholic property and was developed beginning in 1931 as St. Edward Seminary by the Sulpician Order. After declining enrollment forced the seminaries to close in 1977, most of the site was sold to the state. The park preserves notable seminary-era features and a rich natural setting, while the main building, later recognized on state and national registers, was restored and reopened in 2021 as the Lodge at St. Edwards.
