Simi Valley's only school buildings of any significant age reflect the development of local education from the late nineteenth century into the twentieth. The Simi School District was formed in 1889, and classes were first held in one of the colony houses while a new building was built and furnished for $3000. In 1902, the Santa Susana School District was formed and a one-room school was built, followed by a red brick school in 1917. By the 1920's, the districts were unified, a Community Center was formed, and Simi Valley High School was built. This school opened in 1926, and lumber from the old Simi School was reused in the bungalows at the south end of the school grounds.
