Welcome to the Temple Quarry Trail
Industry
In Little Cottonwood Canyon, mining, lumbering, and quarrying made this a busy place in the late 1800's and early 1900's, drawing hundreds and even thousands of people to towns such as Graniteville, Wasatch, Hogum, Tannersville, Central City, Alta, and Emmaville that have since disappeared. The stories and evidence of occupation remain, including this site where Mormon pioneers quarried rock used in building the Salt Lake City Temple, and marks of that quarrying are still visible on the rocks. People have relied on the canyon's resources for hundreds of years and will continue to do so for many years to come.
