The Beeson House
History
7
In 1912, William B. Beeson, Sr., a lawyer and teacher, and his wife, Katherine Chambless Beeson, built their family home on Main Street. The fourteen-room house was one of the largest in Wauchula at the time, and lumber was hauled by wagon from Lakeland to the home site. The home remained in the family until 2004. William and his brother, Dr. James Beeson, owned Beeson Brothers’ Drug store on East Main Street, which served Wauchula from 1904 to 1978. An entrepreneur, Mr. Beeson also owned a farm with pedigreed hogs, chickens, and pheasants near his home.
