By 1850, Creek Indian Chief Sapulpa had a ranch, blacksmith shop, and store here. He served in the Confederate Army, was discharged as a lieutenant, and is buried north of his old homestead in a cemetery owned by Nancy Green Chapter, NSDAR, two blocks south. The local railroad station was named in his honor.
