Upon the Glebe Farm tract of land near this site stood the first church of the French Protestant refugees. The present and fourth church was erected in 1895 and dedicated on April 13, 1896. This memorial was erected by The Huguenot Society of the Founders of Manakin in the Colony of Virginia in 1936 and dedicated in April 1937. King William Parish Manakintowne Church was authorized by an act of the General Assembly held at Williamsburg, Virginia, on December 5, 1700.
