Space Center Houston, the official visitor center for NASA’s Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center, opened in 1992 as a nonprofit-run museum and public gateway to the working campus. Focused on human spaceflight, it displays more than 400 artifacts, including Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo spacecraft, training hardware, moon rocks, and a touchable lunar sample. Major attractions include Independence Plaza, where visitors can enter both a shuttle replica and its carrier aircraft, and Rocket Park, home to a Saturn V assembled from flight-designated stages. Tram tours reach Mission Control and astronaut training areas, while newer exhibits highlight the International Space Station, Mars exploration, and life in orbit.
