Arts & Culture
Heinold’s First and Last Chance Saloon has operated continuously on this site since 1883 and is closely associated with the author Jack London. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 1, 2000, it was also designated a National Literary Landmark by Friends of Libraries USA. Befriended here by Johnny Heinold, Jack London met many seafaring and waterfront characters at this original site and later immortalized them in his adventure novels.
