In 1978 A.D., Ada Barta McDermott donated this historic hotel to the Nebraska Czechs of Wilber in honor of her mother, Amelia Barta. Widowed with eight children, Mrs. Barta left the farm and through hard work, long hours, and determination successfully raised her family while also making the Wilber Hotel a welcome haven for travelers and for the community. Her indomitable spirit, devotion to family, and concern for fellowman typified an important aspect of the Czech heritage.
