From the early 1700s until 1832, this site was occupied by several thousand Kickapoo. It was home to a great nation whose ancestors lived and died here, and the Kickapoo regard the land in Illinois as something to treasure as a people who honor their elders and ancestors and believe in preserving tribal ways.
