The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Clinton was erected by the townspeople in 1978 in memory of those who died in the service of their country and whose identity was never established. It honors the unknown dead of the Colonial Wars, Revolutionary War, Mexican War, Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, and Viet Nam, and bears the words, "Known But To God They Fell In Honored Glory." The sculptor was Clinton E. Slater, with Miguel A. Escalera and Daniel Vece as consultants.
