Blazed by Gurdon S. Hubbard from 1822 to 1824, this trail connected the American Fur Company's trading posts between Vincennes and Chicago. Momence, near the upper crossing of the Kankakee River, lay on the route. Also known as the Vincennes Trace, it is perpetuated today in State Highway No. 1.
