Settled in 1829, Webbers Falls was named for Walter Webber, a Western Cherokee chief who had a trading post here. It was the home of "Rich Joe" Vann until 1844, and he owned the quarter mile race horse "Lucy Walker," for which he named his Mississippi River steamboat. In a Civil War battle on April 25, 1863, Webbers Falls was burned by Federal troops.
