The Montezuma Hills are a low range in southern Solano County on the edge of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta and southwestern Sacramento Valley. Though rising only about 164 to 279 feet above sea level, their open terrain provides a strong wind resource that made them a major center of wind energy development, especially around the Shiloh Wind Power Plant. The hills also overlie the Rio Vista Gas Field and have long been used for dryland farming, sheep grazing, and natural gas production. Intensive grazing has greatly altered the natural landscape, leaving limited native vegetation and relatively modest wildlife habitat compared with nearby Suisun Marsh.
