Icelandic State Park in northeastern North Dakota occupies more than 900 acres on the north shore of Lake Renwick, blending recreation with the preservation of the region’s Icelandic settlement heritage. Established in 1964 after G. B. Gunlogson donated 200 acres of family land the previous year, it includes woodland, a beach, museum, historic buildings, and the Pioneer Heritage Center. Visitors use the park for camping, fishing, swimming, kayaking, boating, hiking, and cross-country skiing, with the Cavlandic Trail linking it to Cavalier. Its Gunlogson State Nature Preserve protects arboretum land along both banks of the Tongue River and supports rare plants and animals.
