1
Pembina State Museum in Pembina, North Dakota, combines local history exhibits with a seven-story observation tower overlooking the border landscape. Its permanent gallery follows the Pembina area from fossils and prehistoric tools through trade and settlement, with special emphasis on the fur trade, Red River ox carts, and Pembina’s role in North Dakota’s first white settlement. Exhibits also interpret nearby frontier forts and the history of the Canada–US border. A second gallery hosts temporary exhibitions, while the tower offers wide views of the Red River of the North and surrounding country, linking the region’s history to its geography as a crossroads of movement, defense, and exchange.
